Ranking All The Anime’s I’ve Watched This Year (Blogmas Day 21)

Hey Sunny Siders, happy blogmas day 21! This year I really got into watching anime. I’ve watched a lot of anime this year, so I thought it’d be fun to rank all the anime’s I’ve watched this year using a tier system.

S tier (the highest ranking)

Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is about a boy named Tanjiro whose family is killed by a demon. The only survivor is his sister who was turned into a demon. The story follows Tanjiro on his quest to restore his sister back to human form and avenge his family. The animation and storyline are exceptional in this show. It’s really hard to watch any anime after Demon Slayer because it sets the bar extremely high.

Jujutsu Kaisen

This anime follows Yuji on his journey of becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer that eradicates the powerful curse known as Sukuna. The characters, music, animation, and storyline are once again superb, and I cannot wait to see what this show has in store for future seasons.

Hunter x Hunter

This anime follows Gon on his quest to become a Hunter like his father. Along the way Gon meets lots of friends, like Killua, who help him on this journey. Hunter x Hunter takes a little bit to get into, but once it gets going you won’t want to stop. The characters are extremely well written and the growth you see in them is incredible.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

If you’re not into fighting or suspense, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is for you. This anime follows Saiki, a high schooler that has psychic abilities, as he tries to navigate a normal high school life. This anime is the perfect comedy, and every episode left me laughing.

Assassination Classroom

Assassination Classroom follows a group of middle school students that are tasked with killing their teacher before he blows up the Earth. The way all of these characters grew and evolved as students was some of the most beautifully written character development I’ve ever seen. I’ve never been so attached to a group of characters as I was with Assassination Classroom. Trust me, you will cry during this one so be warned.

Spy x Family

Once again, if you’re looking for something more lighthearted Spy x Family is the anime for you. Spy x Family follows the spy named Twilight on his mission to create a fake family all in the name of restoring peace between the east and the west. What Twilight doesn’t know is that is daughter is telepathic and his wife is an assassin. This anime is a perfect balance of serious plot and hilarious comedy. Oh, and you will definitely fall in love with these characters!

A tier

Death Note

Death Note is about Light Yagami a boy genius who stumbles upon a book that allows him to kill anyone anyway he wants. He decides to seek his own justice by killing all the criminals in Japan. Not everything goes according to plan as L is tasked with catching this killer, and he gives Light a run for his money. This anime is all about double crossing and extremely complicated plans to avoid capture.

My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is the story of how Deku becomes the greatest hero of them all. Deku, a once quirk-less human, is gifted the quirk “one for all” from the current number one hero All Might. This anime is another one that does a great job of developing a large number of characters. There is also a nice balance between intense and lighthearted episodes.

Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High School Host Club follows Haruhi as she stumbles upon the Hist Club and accidentally breaks an extremely valuable vase. She must work off her debt by joining the host club, where she meets lifelong friends. This is a really goofy anime that always kept me laughing. Some of the things the host club was tasked with doing were just hilarious.

Restaurant To Another World

Restaurant To Another World is about a restaurant that only opens once every 7 days and is a portal between our world and others. The restaurant serves western food to mythical creatures as they work through their problems. This is such a lighthearted and sweet anime. I always felt warm and fuzzy inside after watching an episode.

Kakegurui

Kakegurui follows gambling addict Yumeko as she shakes up the dynamic at Hyakkaou Private Academy. The school is known for gambling, but Yumeko really takes the gambles to a new height. This anime is very different from the others I’d watched but in a good way. I loved the animation, and the gambles these students were making were just crazy.

B tier

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma

This anime follows Yukihira Soma as he enrolls in a culinary school and aims to become the top chef. Along the way he meets friends to have competitions with, as they battle for a spot in the Elite 10. This anime is like watching a Food Network competition. I enjoyed it because I learned a lot about cooking. However, it really fell flat in the final season.

Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits

After losing her grandfather, Aoi is sent to the realm of the ayakashi to repay her grandfathers debt by marrying the Ogre King. Aoi doesn’t want to marry the Ogre, so she devises a plan to pay off the debt by opening a restaurant. I’ll say this anime had a great idea, but so far there hasn’t been much of Aoi cooking and running her restaurant. The anime’s main plot keeps getting overshadowed by these mini side plots that take up a majority of the screen time.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

This anime based off of a video game follows David, who after his mother is killed in a drive by shooting, decides to become an edgerunner and deck out his body with high tech machinery implants. For only being 10 episodes they crammed a lot of plot in. The animation was nice and there were lots of twists and turns in the plot.

C tier

Isekai Izakaya (Nobu)

This anime has a similar plot to Restaurant To Another World. This anime features a bar that is connected to another world. The patrons come to eat the unique foods and drink the strange alcohol. At the end of each episode there is an informational cooking or restaurant lesson. This anime was just okay. It was lighthearted and fun, but it felt a bit like a knock off of Restaurant To Another World in my opinion.
